Four Reasons Why You Should Hire a Virtual Bookkeeper

Last year, the pandemic forced many businesses to go virtual, including bookkeeping. While bookkeeping had been steadily trending towards becoming more virtual for a while now, this has allowed many bookkeepers and clients the chance to see how much more convenient certain services are when they are virtual. How do you know if virtual bookkeeping is right for you? It's right for you if...

1. If you want a bookkeeper that doesn't live where you live

The best part about the web is that it brings an entire world to your fingertips. Instead of travelling out of state to get coffee from that one coffeeshop you visited on your vacation six years ago, you can now order it online and have it shipped to your door. This counts for bookkeeping too! If you find a snazzy website that really impresses you, you can hire a bookkeeper that doesn't live in your state or even your country! Bonus: if you end up moving, you can take your bookkeeper with you!

2. If you like staying on the cutting edge of technology

Over a decade ago, Apple trademarked the phrase, "There's an app for that." The 2021 saying might as well be, "There's a program for that." As technology grows, we're finding new and innovative ways to do everything. Need to balance your budget? There's a tool for that. Need to keep track of your todo list? There's a tool for that. Need some face to face time with your friends or family? There's a tool for that or two.

Even if you aren't super technology savvy (we get it, some of us prefer handwriting in notebooks to typing on laptops), virtual bookkeepers are typically in tune with simple, easy solutions and would be happy to introduce you to the tools you need to stay connected and effective in the small business world.

Cut down on the commute.

3. If you want more flexibility in your day

No longer having to drive somewhere to meet with someone (or arrange for someone to drive to you) means that you get a lot more of your day back that you would've lost from commuting, this means that an hour meeting can be scheduled as an hour meeting. Additionally, since your bookkeeper doesn't have a commute either, it will be easier for them to find time to meet with you in person.

Alternatively, you may not even have to schedule a formal meeting with your bookkeeper online. You can correspond via email whenever you have five minutes here or there, instead of packing up all your files and trekking to a different location.

4. If you want to work with a happier, more productive company

Confession: we can't guarantee this last one. However, studies have shown that virtual businesses have lower overhead costs (because they're no longer paying for building costs) and happier employees (because they can work from home). Lower overhead costs mean that your bookkeeping business has more freedom to redirect their finances into products that better serve you directly or indirectly and happier employees mean that you'll have an overall better experience working together to navigate your finances.
